BTS: No More Dream

12 Jun

I’ve been following this group since before debut and I’ve been eagerly awaiting what they would produce. To say it was incredible would be an understatement.

*fangirl shrieks*

This video was on a totally different level. Out of all the rookies that have debuted this year (thus far) they are hands down my favorite. I like LC9 and their debut but for me this blew that out of the water. In a few of the comments some have sad this reminds them of B.A.P. I can see where they are coming from with the concept but that is where the similarities end for me.

The intro was very cute when then running into boxes and then immediatly spouting out each members name. It is something that more groups should consider doing. It easily told me who each member was so that any point in the video if I was confused as to who was who I could just go back to the beginning. Well played.

The intro song itself is pretty hard core. It has a very gutter feel to it. From the hard beat that precedes the car crash to the steady thumping synth. The rhythmic chant thing in the background is strangely cool and addicting. I don’t know what he is saying but its cool.

The actual song starts off with what I am going to assume is a double bass because that’s what it sounds like. Very jazzy. But after that point the actual beat drops. It’s so freaking addicting. The double bass plays throughout the song. The song is unlike anything I’ve heard released from a kpop group in the past few years. It sounds very underground and I think that is something they need. This isn’t a dance track and it doesn’t need to be. It’s perfect the way it is. I can easily see myself driving with the windows down and this song bumping through my speakers. It’s rough in a way that B.A.P couldn’t have been. This song is just  *asdfghjkl*

I’ve never actually been speechless over a group before but that is what is happening with this one.

The video was a totally different affair, I actually wasn’t upset with the whole in a box thing because it actually looked cool. They had BMX riders and skate boards. They just looked like the stereotypical kids with no future.  Vagabonds the lot of them. Their stylists for this concept for this really did their job. Each member got their time in the spotlight and it was good to see.

This song wasn’t about being super catchy even though it is. It isn’t about being awesome which it is. From what I gather it’s about following your dreams. Without dreams you are essential just asking for trouble. Do what you want to do and forget anyone who tells you otherwise. Doing what others want you to do for your future is just a hassle. But I could be wrong. It’s a powerful message not unlike when Nu’est’s debut song was about bullying.

This song has been on repeat non-stop since I first heard it. It’s really a great song. They to me are an actually hip hop group. They aren’t just some group that has rappers. I commend them on that. I’m looking forward to their debut stage on shows like MNET Countdown and Inkigayo. Hopefully, they bring the same overwhelming presence to the stage when they perform live. This group has the potential to go far. I’m rooting for them.
